Public Records Office

For a fascinating day out U3As can book a tour of the Public Records Office (PRONI) in Belfast.  It is easy to get to, take a 26 bus from the front of City Hall (in front of the Santander Bank) and get off just after the Odyssey Arena, the stop before the Titanic Centre.  You need first to register and provide photographic i.d. which will then allow you to visit PRONI at any time to do your own research.  A booking will ensure that you get a talk first about the records held there and how to access them, then you will be shown the unexpected art work in the building, taken to the rooms where you can browse what is available and call up whatever documents interest you or check through parish records or wills.   To make a booking (all free) contact Bronagh Eaton on 028 9053 4800.  On top of all that there is a very good cafe in the building.
